What is Teleradiology?
Teleradiology is defined as the practice of radiology
at a distance. Teleradiology is a method of distributing digital
diagnostic images such as, X-rays, ultrasonography, magnetic resonance
and radioisotopes and other related information through local area
or wide area networks between local and remote facilities. Medical
images are acquired from one location and are transmitted to one
or more distant sites where they are displayed for diagnosis and/or
consultation. A well-planned teleradiology system can be a cost
effective and time efficient method that allows users to capture,
transmit, store and review patient studies. Timely availability
of medical images via a variety of communication networks is a
primary goal of teleradiology.
